The Holy Cow Cafe in Chilcompton, Somerset. Come and relax in our comfortable and homely café.  We serve delicious homemade food and great coffee using local produce wherever possible. Our suppliers include:

We have a location like no other. Set in the grounds of early 17th century Manor Farm the café garden overlooks St John’s church. If you don’t fancy coming to us by car, you can cycle or take a walk on the many public footpaths that surround us. Or if you’re short of time all of our food is available to take out.

Our Menu


Our breakfast menu includes pastries, breakfast sandwiches & cooked breakfasts all made with quality ingredients and free range eggs.  

For lunch we offer our regular favourites and a specials menu which changes fortnightly.  Our Winter warming menu includes the Holy Cow homemade burger, braised beef and veg pie, vegetable curry, chilli wraps and the always popular pulled pork with Hoisin sauce on a toasted bun. To accompany the above, or simply to eat on their own, we have a range of nutritious, tasty salads.  Both our lunch and breakfast menu has vegetarian and gluten free options available. 

There are now eight types of coffee and a variety of teas and if you fancy something sweet the selection of homemade cakes provided by our farmhouse kitchen or the famously rich and tasty The Pudding Kitchen should do the trick!

Saturdays & Sundays are breakfast only but with a menu even more delicious!

They also produce the Quench range consisting of zesty lemonades, refreshing elderflower presses, and ginger beers.  Apart from the Holy Cow, you can catch a taste of Bradley’s juices at Midsomer Norton Farmers’ market the first Saturday of each month.

The subject of which, little Jack Horner, is believed to have lived in the village. But these rolls have more than just a great back-story, they are delicious too! Enjoy everything from a classic pork and sage roll to pheasant, partridge and mushroom, hot or cold, at the Holy Cow or on the move, they never disappoint.    Rated as “ the best sausage rolls we’ve ever tasted” by GQ, so you know we’re not telling porkies!

They also treat their cows like queens, giving them a comfortable life in the belief that happy cows make for good milk and that’s something that sits well with us at The Holy Cow.

 HOBBS HOUSEOur  Gloucestershire neighbour started out in the 1920s and has been baking delicious home baked bread ever since. You’ll find their brioche buns lovingly embracing our trademark Holy Cow burgers at lunchtime.

Karen and Emma are our dedicated chefs in the Holy Cow Kitchen. Always busy making you the best of what we offer, from wholesome salads, soups and quiches, to a cheeky stack of pancakes for pudding or a lazy breakfast, just make sure you save room for their chocolate Guinness cake afterwards!
